Gauhar Khan was slapped for wearing short dresses and dancing on item numbers on the sets of Raw Star. The incident happened just one day ago and what we fail to understand is that why would any man react to it the way her young attacker did? The model/actress was only doing her job. Her dance moves and clothes were far decent than any item dance performer.
“Being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress”, the 24 year-old attacker, Mohammed Akil Mallick had said to Gauhar as reported by the cops.
This statement again takes us back to where we were. The outlook of most men towards women has not moved an inch forward. Especially, for ‘Muslim women’! Coming out free from ‘Pardah’ and wearing ‘Burkhah’ phase, the new age women have started to make their own respective identities but this incident has come as a shocker not just to Gauhar but all independent women in the country.
Several news channels have reported that the attacker also touched Gauhar inappropriately. Now what does that tell about men and their outlook towards women who wear short dresses?
Bollywood celebrities who did tweet for Deepika Padukone’s case (about a news channel making her cleavage a big news) have chosen to remain silent except for, Farhan Akhtar and Madhur Bhandarkar.
Even the always charged up Twitterati has not reacted to this incident. Do people like to stand for issues which only talk about butt, cleavage, etc. Why hasn’t anyone reacted to this really serious issue? What is missing?
