A special TADA court sentenced life imprisonment to gangster Abu Salem for the murder of Pradeep Jain, a Mumbai-based builder in 1995.
Ujjwal Nikam, the special public prosecutor had demanded death penalty for Salem for but Salem’s lawyer, Sudeep Pasgola had argued that due to the treaty signed between India and Portugal, a death sentence cannot be given to him.
On Monday, a special TADA court had convicted Abu Salem, Mehndi Hasan and Virendra Jhamb. There were all accused of the murder of Pradeep Jain. Ujjwal Nikam said, “Abu Salem has been convicted under section 302 (murder) 120 B (conspiracy) of the IPC and other relevant sections of TADA.”
