If you have a pet in the house, you know how important it is to spend good quality-time with them, especially when you are an adventure freak. It is important to introduce your pets to your hobby so you both could do more things together. David Bahnson had two lovely and adventurous pooches that he would take along with him in his cars, airplanes, and boats. And it seemed logical to him to build a boat so he could kayak with his dogs.
David had taught one of his golden retriever, Susie how to windsurf. He was confident his dogs will be able to accompany him while he would kayak in the sea.
“After we got our second Golden (Ginger) I decided to just build another identical hull but to modify the baggage compartments to accommodate both dogs, adding coamings to both instead of the flat opening for a baggage compartment.”
“When we got Ginger, I just put in another hole. It’s like a triple kayak, only there isn’t enough room for the paddlers to put their feet — but it’s perfect for a dog… They never hopped out into the water, actually.”
“Our dogs have always loved to travel with us in cars, in my airplane, in boats. Building a way for them to kayak with us just seemed like a logical choice, and the boats are fun to build anyway.”
“We’ve gone miles and miles of paddling with our dogs”
Sadly, both of the dogs pictured with David have passed away. “My wife and her friends still use the kayaks and she takes our newest golden, Piper, along with her,” he told HuffPost UK.
