Some things about Delhi can never change. Whether it is a rainy day or a public holiday, Delhi’s unkind auto-drivers will never hesitate to demand extra charges on account of a few known excuses, “Aaj baarish itni hai, 20 Rs meter ke upar dena hoga” and “Aaj toh itna bada din hai, aaj to inaam banta hai.” This is expected. But when Delhi-man named, Satyajit Roy approached a generous and patriotic Delhi auto-driver, he could not believe himself. It rained heavily on Independence Day and so, getting an auto was a tough deal for him. “In midst of a heavy rainfall I was trying to search an auto to reach R.K Puram Sector III however none of the drivers were willing to go due to this rain. “
Even if a rickshaw-driver would agree to give one a ride during rain, he would definitely ask for extra money and that’s what happened with Satyajit. “One of them even said “Meter pe Rs 50 extra lagega kyunki baarish ho rahi hai !!! “”
After asking a few auto-drivers, he finally found one, who agreed to charge money only according to the meter. When Satyajit reached his destination and paid the driver the fare after checking the meter, he couldn’t believe himself. The auto-driver refused to take the money because he celebrates Independence Day and Republic Day by giving delhiites a free ride. “Kamane k liye to saalbhar hai but aaj k din mai desh k liye apne deshwasiyon ko free rides deta hoon…” Satyajit was shocked at auto-driver’s gesture. He took his details and decided to let everyone know about the man’s greatness.
