As disgusting as it gets, this really happened in Gajuna village of Bhilwara district in Rajasthan. Hindustan Times reported that four girls aged between two years and 12 years were secretly married in a ceremony while police and local administration were caught napping. The most shocking part is that the grooms were also minors.
Reportedly, these weddings took place on February 23 in the family of Madan Nath. The police visited the village on Thursday night after a report in a local newspaper.
On 26th, the girls’ uncle Kupa Rawal told the Child Welfare Committee in Bhilwara that his bhabhi(sister-in-law) and her brothers had married the girls off secretly. Based on the media report, The Rajasthan State Child Rights Protection Commission and Child welfare committee in Bhilwara wrote to the Bhilwara SP Pradeep Mohan Sharma and SDM Mandal Devi Lal to file FIRs against the people present at the wedding.
Kriti Bharti, an activist based in Jodhpur who also works for annulment of child marriages said the police could have registered an FIR under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 taking suo motu cognizance of the newspaper report.
This is utterly shocking and disgusting.
