You must have read about JNU students protesting Afzal Guru’s hanging. This has created a lot of controversy, and understandably so. You may be for or against the opinions of the students. We’re not here to talk about our opinions on the matter, either.
Padma Shri Yogeshwar Dutt, the wrestler from Haryana who brought India the glory by winning a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Men’s 60kg Freestyle wrestling penned down a very thoughtful poem on this issue and it makes for the best read on this issue, so far.
He has written the poem in Hindi. One of the most touching lines of the same is,
If Afzal Guru was a martyr, who was Lance Naik Hanumanthappa?
Here’s the full poem that he tweeted. Take a bow, Mr. Dutt!
