TransAsia airplane with 53 passengers aboard crashes in Taipei river

Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA) reported that with 53 passengers along with 5 crew members (58 in total) aboard, a TransAsia flight crash landed in a river in Taipei.

Reuters quoted that the ATR-72 turboprop, which was en route from Taipei’s Songshan Airport to the outlying island of Kinmen, crashed 3 minutes after take-off at 10:45 AM local time which resulted in at least 2 people being killed.

Almost 16 people were rescued according to the civil authorities quote to a media briefing. Among those on board, there were 31 mainland Chinese tourists – Taiwan tourism bureau.
