Tesla, an early player in the electric vehicles market, has been trying to expand its presence. In line with that, the company is now expected to start selling its cars in the Indian market in early 2021. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla has confirmed that while it may not happen in January, it will definitely happen this year.
And it seems that the development isn’t just limited to selling cars in India but the company may be looking to manufacturing it in the country. As per India’s Transport Minister, Elon Musk-led company may consider assembly and manufacturing in India depending on the response.
The first car that Tesla will launch in the Indian market is the Model 3 and is expected to be priced around 55 lakh rupees, which is roughly around $74,800. The company could start taking orders in the early months of 2021 and start shipping them in mid-2021.
Interestingly, the company had started taking pre-orders for the Model 3 in India back in 2016 when the final price of the car wasn’t even revealed. Many Indians placed an order, given the fact that Elon Musk at that time had said that the Supercharger network is also coming to India.
Finally, after years of delay, Tesla is finally expanding its presence to the Indian market but there are still many details that need clarification and we expect to know more in the coming weeks and months.
