13-year-old Odisha girl wins Community Impact Award at Google Science Fair

Bright teenage makes India proud! Class IX student Lalita Prasida Sripada Srisai, 13 years from Delhi Public School, Damanjodi in Odisha bagged the Community Impact Award for her project at the Google Science Fair.

Lalita has invented an efficient, low cost and eco-friendly water purifier made with corn cobs.

Corn grows in abundance in India. While corn kernels are widely used in the country, the cob is considered nothing but waste. And that’s what made Lalita decided on using the cob for her science project.

Lalita’s project has earned her funding of $10,000 along with a year’s mentorship from the magazine ‘Scientific American’. Her mentor will help her build and fine-tune her idea.
