Good news! Google announces availabilty of Indian Railways schedules on Google Maps Transit

Here’s some good news for Indians who travel a lot by trains. Google announced today that for Google Transit, there will be an addition of of Indian Railways schedules as well as updated public transport information for eight Indian cities – Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune. Google Maps have sorted our lives quite a lot and this update will be a lot more helpful. It will allow you to see information for 12,000 trains along with updated details for bus and metro routes (for the 8 cities mentioned earlier).

You need to follow some really simple directions for planning a trip with Google Transit. First type your destination into Google Maps, next, click on the “Get Directions” button. After that, select the “Public Transit” icon for finding the options available in metro, trains or buses. Now, Google Maps will display door-to-door directions to the destination with the public transport options available including walking directions to and from transit points. What’s more, you can even choose your preferred mode of transport. This will make it easier to plan your trip.
